Road trip

Today we went on a road trip. We started at the Badia Morrnesa. It is the abby of that guy we had the parade for, the one that became pope Celestine V. We got there just as a tour was starting. It is beautiful. We didn't get to see all of it as it is being restored. It was a prison until 1990. Sick, right? They are making it earthquake proof as they go so it is taking a long time.

Something I thought was cool. See my little feet?

These pictures are inside the cloister. First the rooms held monks and then prisoners.

We drove down one side of the Abruzzo National park and came to a beautiful town and lake. Barrea.

We stopped and ate lunch on the beach. We were the only people. We saw some other people bundled up in their coats and scarves for a walk in the woods. It was great weather and the water was warmer than Maine, but we didn't go swimming.

I cannot remember the name of this town, but it was very beautiful. It was in a ski region and was a little Swiss or Stowe.

Here are some of the things we drove our Smart car through.

This is the last town we walked around. It was not in my guide book and I can't remember the name. It is medieval and was virtually deserted. It is the church where they do a snake thing in the spring. I was happy to be there in the fall.

Small thing of the day: I have never seen a window with a design on the inside like this one. Also in the nameless snake town.

Tomorrow the beach!
