How to spot a Dane

In order to write this post in as scholarly a manner as possible I have consulted Danes and Daners a like. The consensus is that the male of the species, as in many other animals and birds, is the most obvious and easiest to identify.

Danes and Daners agree that the male is generally taller than average, wears baggy shorts with lots of pockets with the definitive means of identification being sandals with white socks. This is probably topped with a t-shirt with a saying, often in English. Most likely they will have a man purse or a bag with Fjallraven on it. (put two dots over both A’s) The Fjallraven bag increases the possibility that the Dane is a teacher, but is not definitive.

The female Dane may also have Fjallaraven bag and she probably is a teacher. If you see a Danish woman you will probably think she is from Vermont and that may be your first question for her. However that would only be for politeness sake. If she is in this part of Italy she will be a Dane. Her hair will not be over processed or cut in a stylish fashion. She may be wearing sensible sandals like Teva or Keen, but she will not be wearing socks. There is only one female of the species Vermonticaus Femalnous in this vally and that is me. ( I am easily recognized by my baggy butt pants, messy t-shirt and paint splattered shoes) No “bella figura” in this house.

In conclusion Danes are common in the Subequo Valley and while each is different and in some ways unique, you will not be able to add many species other than Dane to your life list while in Castelvecchio.

Now for the test:
1. How many of these people are Danish?
2. Are there any Danes in this picture?

3. How many of these people are Danish?
4. Who is the Dane in this picture and how do you know?

5. How many of these people are Danish?
Answers
1. Two, one on far left and one on far right.
2. No, notice no socks with sandals.
3. None
4. One, he is tall and you can just see the top of a black sock
4. Two. People facing you on the left. The man is not wearing socks, but, although Danish, he is a Resident Italian.
